This policy explains how Sceen collects, uses, shares and protects your personal data when you use the Sceen website or join the waitlist.

The Sceen app has its own separate Privacy Policy, which you will be given before you create an account.

1. Who we are

Sceen is a social and cultural platform for the LGBTQ+ community.

We are the controller of the personal data described in this policy. That means we decide how and why it is used.

2. What this policy covers

This policy covers the Sceen website at yoursceen.com and the waitlist.

It does not cover the Sceen app, which has its own privacy policy. It also does not cover other companies’ websites or services that we link to.

3. What we collect

• Your email address, when you join the waitlist.
• Your display name, if you choose to claim a Founders Wall place.
• Anything you send us directly, for example if you email us a question.
• Technical information your browser or device sends us: IP address, device and browser type, pages viewed, and how you arrived at the site.

We do not ask for your name, date of birth, location or any profile information on the website. We collect only what we need to run the site and the waitlist.

4. Sensitive information

We do not ask you for sensitive information on this website. But joining a waitlist for an LGBTQ+ platform can itself suggest something about your sexual orientation or gender identity, and UK data protection law gives that kind of information extra protection.

We handle your waitlist details on that basis. We ask for your consent when you sign up, we keep the list restricted to the people who need it, and you can withdraw your consent and remove yourself at any time.

We never sell, rent or share the waitlist, and we never use it for advertising.

5. Why we use your information and our legal bases

We use personal data only for the purposes described below and only where we have a lawful basis.

6. What we do not do

• We do not sell your personal data.
• We do not run advertising on this website, and we do not share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
• We do not build advertising profiles.
• We do not out you. We will not publish or share your waitlist sign-up, and the Founders Wall shows only the display name you choose.

7. Who we share your information with

We share personal data only where it is needed to run the website and the waitlist, or to comply with the law.

• Website hosting and storage: Kinsta, our managed WordPress host. Waitlist email addresses are stored in our website’s database on Kinsta’s infrastructure, which runs on Google Cloud.
• Security and content delivery: Cloudflare, which sits in front of our website as part of our hosting.

These suppliers act on our instructions under a written contract. They cannot use your data for their own purposes.

We may also disclose data where the law requires it, or as part of a sale, merger or restructuring of the business.

8. Where your data is held

We store data in the UK and the European Economic Area wherever we reasonably can.

Where data is transferred outside the UK, we use an approved safeguard: a UK adequacy decision, the International Data Transfer Agreement, or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. Contact us for details of the safeguards used for a particular transfer.

9. How long we keep your data

We keep personal data only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, unless a longer period is required or permitted by law.

When account deletion is requested, we delete associated account data unless we are legally required or otherwise lawfully permitted to retain specific information, for example for security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution or regulatory compliance. Any retained information will be limited to what is necessary and will be deleted when the retention reason ends.

10. Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you may ask us to:

• give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• correct data that is inaccurate or incomplete
• delete your data
• restrict or object to how we use it
• send your data to you or to another provider in a portable format
• withdraw your consent, which does not affect anything we did before you withdrew it
• stop sending you emails

The quickest way to remove yourself from the waitlist is the unsubscribe link in any of our emails. For anything else, contact info@yoursceen.com. We normally respond within one month, and we will not charge a fee unless the law allows it.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

11. How we keep your data safe

We use technical and organisational measures appropriate to the risk, including encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and regular reviews of who can access personal data.

No service can guarantee perfect security. If a personal data breach creates a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will take the action the law requires, including notifying the ICO and, where legally required, the people affected.

12. Cookies and similar technology

We use cookies and similar technologies that are strictly necessary to operate the website. These do not require your consent, but we tell you about them here so that you know they are there.

We use Google Analytics for analytics. We only set non-essential cookies where you have given consent, and you can change your choice at any time through the Cookie pop-up.

13. Age

Sceen is for adults. You must be 18 or over to join the waitlist.

If we learn that someone under 18 has joined, we will remove them from the waitlist and delete their data, apart from anything we are required to keep by law.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Sceen changes or as legal requirements change. The “last updated” date at the top shows the current version.

If we make a material change to how we use personal data, we will give you appropriate notice and, where required, obtain your consent before the new processing begins.
